Fort Bragg Plein Air Paintings

These were completed on site. My desire was to work on values and to not fear the darks. I really enjoyed working on these. One regret is not using sunscreen.

Icon (in progress)

This is from my most recent trip to San Francisco. We had gone to see the Richard Avedon, Ansel Adams and Georgia O'Keefe exhibit and as we were leaving I grabbed a photo of the street outside the museum. What struck me about the photo is the man looking back at another woman and the Richard Avendon image on the flag above.

Upstaged II

I have a habit of exploring an image in multiple mediums. This is the watercolor/acrylic version. My friend was telling me that it looks like the people are building the statue as opposed to observing it. I sort of agree.

Sunny Flower

One of my artist trading card images. I'm painting some sun flowers these days. Pam and I love feeding birds. As you all know birds like to kick out seeds they don't like in favor of the ones they like. As a result Pam as some great sunflowers in her yard that I'm itching to paint. These trading cards are good for quick studies and they frame pretty well. I ordered a set of mats from Jerry's Artarama. The resulting image is 8 by 10 inches with a nice little painting in the middle.

From the Balcony

This is a plein air piece done from the balcony of our favorite hotel in Fort Bragg, California. This year we found yet another beach to explore and a great restaurant called Silvers. If in the area I highly recommend this local eatery. I even wandered down to the beach to snag a few sketches of sun bathers and surfers.

Genesis

This is a painting of a young lady that I work with. She reminds me of Frida Kahlo. Her heritage is Mexican/German just like Kahlo.

Highway Fixture

Traveling up and down IH 35 in Texas you can see lots of old and dilapidated barns as you speed by. This barn was snapped as we were headed back to Austin. I call it highway fixture because it is part of the Texas highway.

This is still being fine tuned. I think one more session and we will call it done. Based on a photo taken by me in the Boston theater district.
