Cactus Flower

Last week I walked around my hood and did a few sketches of the flowers that were in bloom. This plant is in front of one of my neighbor's apartment. They must think I am strange because I routinely photograph and sketch their flowers and plants. We also had some yuccas in bloom too. I had to watch out for cars in order to get that sketch.

Antique Shop

Years ago I used to walk around town with my camera. I still do that. Well this painting was inspired by a photo that I took in an antique shop on Lavaca in downtown Austin. Back then shop owners didn't mind if you took photos as long as you asked. I liked the dishes and the way they were arranged plus the reflections.

Card Player 2 and Bright Eyes

Pastel on Shizen Pastel paper. This is Tony a family friend that I have painted and drawn a few times. He has great features and skin. Plus he likes to dress well. My first painting of him sold through Mitchie's gallery here in Austin to a collector from South Carolina. I will do a watercolor next.
The drawing.
I sketched this little one while his grandfather (my brother) held him.

Radish

I bought some radishes from the market because I wanted to paint them and I was inspired by last months cover of The Artist Magazine. I started out with an abstract oil underpainting. Once that dried, I applied the pastels. I did't want a tight painting so I kept some of the underlying abstract work.

Leisure Time

This is a Micron pen sketch that I covered with a watercolor wash. It depicts a scene from Charleston, South Carolina. I was attracted to the guys sitting on the bench and the people in the background. These guys were just hanging out during a workweek or maybe they were taking a break from work. I worked on this new handmade drawing paper from Spain called Garza Papel.

Card Player

This is a family friend that I have painted often. He photographs well. When I captured this image he was playing spades with the family. I did this drawing yesterday while hanging out in my gallery space during the West Austin Studio tour.

The Flags and Seasonal Bloom 3

This is a scene from downtown Austin. Its a view of the Capital through the two flags. I don't like whats been happening in that building these days. In my opinion, the halls are filled with hateful men and women who want to stamp out my rights even though I am a taxpaying citizen of this country. But I digress. I enjoy walking around the town sketching various scenes and people.
A daffodil portrait.
