From the Sketchbooks

The first three sketches are from my visits to the courtroom and the last one is from one of my many rides on commerical airlines.

Kristen Candid on Yupo

This is pastel on yupo paper. Its another version of Kristen Candid. I saw an article in Drawing Magazine about an artist that uses conte crayon on Mylar. So I tried conte crayon on yupo. I sprayed alcohol on the first layer and then went back in with the pastels.

Kristen Candid

The first image is where I currently am on this painting. The first two are the initial block in. I have to say I like each stage. But it is getting a bit tight.

Shady Cove Glass Beach

This piece was inspired by a photo taken on Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, CA. I was standing in the surf until it came rushing in yet again to wet my shoes. The rock in the foreground reminds me of the profile of a human face.

Fast Service

One day last year I was driving toward 6th street and saw this guy dressed as a waiter dashing by. I snagged two pics while stopped at the light.

Kristen Candid (in progress)

The person in the foreground is my friend Kristen who lives in Massachusetts. We were walking around the theater district in Boston and of course I had camera in hand. Since we were downtown we were surrounded by skyscrapers. As such really dark shadows in the foreground.

Ballet Austin Rehearsal Sketches

A while ago I got an invite via facebook to attend a Ballet Austin Rehearsal during the lunch hour. I did a few sketches in my watercolor sketchbook and painted them in at home. The lights were up so no worries about drawing in the dark.

My Moms

I'm officially posting in honor of Mother's day for the weekend. This is a piece I completed years ago. My grandmother is sitting in the chair. The painting in the background is one I painted of my mother sitting in the same chair. This is my second Mother's day without my Mother around to spoil. I'm really glad I have many paintings, sketches and photographs of her.

Commerce Livestock

I love painting and photographing livestock. This one got my attention because it was outside the fence. I took the photo from my car window. When she started to walk over I fled. I must admit I'm a wimp. The last painting is a small 5 by 7 inch oil. Above it is a 9 by 12 inch watercolor and of course a sketch.
