Taniya

This is my nieces little girl. She is a little pill with quiet the devilish streak. She has totally charmed the family.

Cave Painting continued

The image on top is where we currently are with this piece. I will keep you posted as to where I take this one.

Last Pose From Memory

This one was done from memory. I did the preliminary charcoal sketch during the session and painted it later. I'm still playing with the skin tones and background but this is where it currently is. I'm using open acrylics.

Cave Painting II

The second piece from the one minute warm up poses. I have done a bit more work on this one. I will post those images later.

Industryscape (continued)

I recently spent some time with this one. I'm slowly carving this one out. Its one of about 15 that I'm working on right now. Part of me wants to finish this one up in pastel. I will keep you posted.

Second Pose March

This is the watercolor version of one of the poses during my most recent session with the group.
I like doing the second painting in watercolor. I can let the watercolor do what it does and just focus on moving the brush around. I force myself to draw and paint the image with a large brush.

Dynamo

This is another watercolor study for an upcoming pastel painting. Its hard painting children. Just one mishap and the face can look menacing. Im going to spend a little more time with this one to see if I can bring out this childs sweetness.

March Conte Pose

This was the first pose that was executed in Conte crayon. I usually paint from the back of the room and it provides me with an advantage. I'm blind as a bat so I really don't have to squint to blur out the clarity. Plus my eyesight forces me to focus on the light and values as opposed to the line.

Cave Painting

Before we start the main poses, the model will do a series of one minute poses to warm us up. I had a piece of prepared Masa paper. I tore it in half and did the warm up sketches of both pieces. I will keep you up to date on what I do with these. I didn't want to waste the images so I plan on working in watercolor to bring them more to life.

March First Pose Watercolor

I went back over to an AVAA life drawing session on Sunday. I was able to get in both a Conte crayon painting and a watercolor in the two one hour sessions. It was an enjoyable afternoon with some great painters. This was the first pose but my second painting.

Dynamic Duo

This is a study for a larger pastel. The subjects are two of my older nephew's sons. They are almost carbon copies of one another. Beautiful features. This is my first foray into painting our next generation. This one will get a little more attention and I will call it done.

Shady Cove (SOLD)

I finally stopped the struggle and framed this puppy for a recent show. Guess what it sold very quickly. That's always nice especially when it was such a struggle.

Cali in the Morning

These grow in California like bluebonnets here in Texas. I was in the back yard one morning and snapped a picture of them. I later did this loose little piece from the photo. I think I even worked in oil on this one.

Brown Paper Wrapper

This guy has an interesting story. I was at one of our Pecan Street Festivals and I took a few photos of this guy watching the promenade. He did notice me taking the last of about four shots. Later in the week I was getting my hair cut at a local barber shop and he came in pan handling. They threw him out . He also got on the same bus with me that same week. There must have been some connection. That's probably why I chose to paint him.

Rock Steady Finished (SOLD)

I recently stopped toying with this one and called it finished. Something did bother me about it. Well I put it in the "Snapshots" show and it got lots of attention. One lady saw a child sitting on a beach, another saw a dog on the beach and some got that this was a rock sticking out of the ocean. It sold the first time it was shown. Two collectors wanted it.

Dublin I The Process

Both paintings were done from the sketch in the middle. I like to explore an image before committing to a larger painting. Also, its fun to work on an image in multiple mediums. It tends to exercise the problem solving muscle a bit more.

Dinner Party

A few years ago I had the pleasure of spending a few days in Chicago. Of course we ate and drank exceptionally well. This one was inspired by a photo taken in the restaurant of the tallest building. I'm going to revisit these images again. Its worth another spin.

From The Sketchbook

These sketches were done during my most recent trip to California. Done in the airport and on the airplane.

Industry Three

I'm still playing around with this one. That red roof is making me pull my hair out (what little I have that is). We were on our way to Dublin, California and I noticed these warehouses from above. It looked like a challenge to paint and it is. Golden open acrylic on a Raymar art panel.

SOLD

This is the painting that sold as I was hanging my show yesterday at Austin Art Space. The doors were open and about 5 people walked through. Two companions zeroed in on this piece very quickly and walked out with it. I did this one shortly after taking a workshop with Desmond Ohagan.

Last Pose II

This is one of the three pieces I squeezed out of the hour that she held this pose (one break). This was the last painting of three. The angle of her body was a challenge as was her face and neck.
