This is my nieces little girl. She is a little pill with quiet the devilish streak. She has totally charmed the family.
Before we start the main poses, the model will do a series of one minute poses to warm us up. I had a piece of prepared Masa paper. I tore it in half and did the warm up sketches of both pieces. I will keep you up to date on what I do with these. I didn't want to waste the images so I plan on working in watercolor to bring them more to life.
This guy has an interesting story. I was at one of our Pecan Street Festivals and I took a few photos of this guy watching the promenade. He did notice me taking the last of about four shots. Later in the week I was getting my hair cut at a local barber shop and he came in pan handling. They threw him out . He also got on the same bus with me that same week. There must have been some connection. That's probably why I chose to paint him.
I recently stopped toying with this one and called it finished. Something did bother me about it. Well I put it in the "Snapshots" show and it got lots of attention. One lady saw a child sitting on a beach, another saw a dog on the beach and some got that this was a rock sticking out of the ocean. It sold the first time it was shown. Two collectors wanted it.
This is the painting that sold as I was hanging my show yesterday at Austin Art Space. The doors were open and about 5 people walked through. Two companions zeroed in on this piece very quickly and walked out with it. I did this one shortly after taking a workshop with Desmond Ohagan.
