Waiting

I've been waiting around in court a lot lately so this painting is appropriately labeled. I find it hard to read anything while waiting so I usually take my sketchbooks along to avoid screaming.

Crossing

This is a busy street scene from New York. I must admit that I have broken the rule of not painting from photos taken by another person. I sent my cousin in New York some disposable cameras and told him to send them back when finished. Its interesting to try and figure out the motivation for the shot.

Watercolor Sketchbook

This watercolor sketch was done in our 427th District Court while I was waiting for my case to be called. I was stuck there for about 3 hours so to quell my frustration with opposing counsel I sketched. Lucky for him sketching calms me.

Domino Fool (in progress)

As you can see I'm defining the shapes a little better and making them (hopefully) "read" as a young man smacking down a domino in a fast paced trash talking game. His cigarettes and shades are to the lower right.

Four Dancers (in progress)

As you can see I'm still toying with this one. I'm still cleaning it up and defining more of the bodies. This picture is a little blurry. I will post a better one after the next session with it.

A Dance for Three (in progress)

Another from the ballet series. The top version is where I currently am with this piece. My goal here is to convey movement and to spark the eye with color. This is painted on Masa paper which has wonderful surface texture. Its unpredictable and fun to work with.

Rushing in Fast

This was inspired by a photo taken in Mendocino. The waves and the resulting sounds are amazing and calming.

Morning Storm (in progress)

I'm playing with the Yupo surface again. Ink and watercolor mixtures inspired by a photo taken during one of our recent and much needed storms.

Red Sweats (in progress)

This is a New York city scene. This is my exploratory watercolor. I plan to do versions in pastel and oil or acrylics. I'm in that making it read portion of this piece.

Fort Bragg Garden (in progress)

In my earlier posts I showed the watercolor study for this piece. Its another section of the botanical garden in Fort Bragg California. The light was wonderful there. This is about the second visit with this painting.

I'm still working on this small piece. I'm trying to get the waves to pop. I would say one more visit with this one and finished.

Four Dancers in Progress

Another one from the Ballet Austin series. This is pastel on Uart paper. Its from the Hamlet production. I think I will spend a little more time with this one and let it go. I want to keep the movement alive.

Above It Watercolor

This is a detail of the watercolor version of Above It. I worked on the pastel version at the same time as this one. The images are sequential. Its not available but it is complete.

Pacifica Waves

During my most recent trip to California I had the pleasure of going to Pacifica. The fog was heavy and the water very choppy. Great place for surfers. This is a work in progress and hopefully I will get to some of the surfer images.

Dont Take My Picture

I love going to the local Pecan Street Festival twice a year here in Austin. Its a great place to take photos of interesting people. I had already taken a shot of this young man when he noticed me taking another. That day there were a ton of photogs out and about and I'm sure someone took a few shots of me that I wasn't aware of.

Above It

My office is located on the 11 floor of an office building downtown. When it rains or when the shadows are interesting, I take photos from above. This painting was inspired by one of those photos.
