2016 First Tulips

I purchased tulips last weekend and got in quite a few paintings before the flowers transitioned. I worked on Garza Papel with Daniel Smith watercolors. The initial drawing was done in red ink. I haven't been posting enough. I am painting and filling sketchbooks but not posting. Not good. When I get home lately I just want to sketch, paint, chores and not be at a computer. From my Union Square sketchbook.

Sky Works

I did this little painting of a Commerce, Texas landscape a few visits ago. I slow it down a bit when I go home. Its nice learning to appreciate my home town as an adult. I see why my mom loved the place and never left. I used part of my gaza papel stash as a surface.
A sketch from my Crescent sketchbook.

This is a compositional sketch done in prep for a painting. I have previously posted the painting.
This sketch was executed on a train ride from Richmond, California to Dublin, California. This guy sat in front of me during one part of the ride. The guys in front of him were fun to sketch because of their body gestures.

This is a sketch from the 167th District Court. The guy with his hand near his mouth is a fellow blogger and prosecutor. Of course I have the jailer next to him. Above them is a defense lawyer and a man waiting in the audience.

From The Sketchbook

These are some sketch studies from my sketchbook. Some of these you have seen the paintings I have posted here the and the others were obviously done while waiting in court. I have some new Micron pens that I used for these.

Sketchbook Page 45

This sketch is connected to the post below in that it was from the same string of images that I took of people from my 11th for office. This is the opposite corner from the post below. I like the shadows in that they take on a life of their own.

From The Sketchbook

These sketches were done during my most recent trip to California. Done in the airport and on the airplane.
