Sky Works

I did this little painting of a Commerce, Texas landscape a few visits ago. I slow it down a bit when I go home. Its nice learning to appreciate my home town as an adult. I see why my mom loved the place and never left. I used part of my gaza papel stash as a surface.

The Process Begins

I painted this little study over at the harbor area of Richmond. The sun was still up but it was beginning its descent. I first did a gouache study in my sketchpad and next did this small watercolor. Lots of vessels, people, doges and birds walking around.

Sunset Colors 3

The second painting completed at sunset on the cliff. I loved the colors that I was able to see that day. Can't wait to make a larger version in multiple mediums.

Sky Complex

I love when the sun is reflected in the ocean. The sunsets were beautiful up in Fort Bragg this past holiday. We were treated with nice weather and beautiful cloud formations. I was able to paint on the balcony up until nightfall without a jacket. That place gives me peace.

No Questions

I worship the sunset so I try and paint it as much as possible. When I painted this I was on the hotel balcony enjoying warm weather for that area and season. I was glad I didn't have to have to have a scarf and gloves to paint outside. The sky was unique for that area and season.

Musical Sky

We saw some beautiful sunsets in Fort Bragg last week. The weather was great and warm enough to wear shorts. I painted on multiple beaches all day. It was the best time in a long time.

Serene Sunset

Another Davis Avenue sunset painting. I liked the muted colors along with the bursts of sunlight. I'm working on this as we speak so it is a little different now.

The Sky Reflects (WIP)

I'm almost done with this one. Its an 18 by 24 so it has taken a lot more time than my smaller paintings. I am going to take it upstairs and hide it from my eye for a few days and make the necessary changes. Below are some progression photos. This last image is called Some Say Stop. Its the original underpainting turned sideways. My studio mates liked this stage.

Not a Tornado

This scene is off of Davis Lane in South Austin. I saw this and had to shoot a photo with my camera phone. I think this scene would translate well in multiple mediums.

Sunset Study

Derrick my trainer sent me this photo that he took out in Johnson City. This is a watercolor study for what will be a larger pastel painting. I loved the colors that I found in this photo cant wait to start the pastel.
