I painted this piece during my recent stay in Northern California. I frequently "turn around" and paint something other than the ocean.

Snow Covered Bales

My workout partner shared a few pictures of his ranch in the snow. Of course being obsessed with hay bales I had to do this little painting. I liked the fence lines too. This is a little trading card image. I really like working small. Its a challenge to put in detail. My intent is to frame up a few of these little jewels for my gallery. They don't take up much space and I think they draw your attention.

March West Austin Sunset

I love the fact that I can just open my door for inspiration. One day last month I noticed that the light outside was extra special. I opened the door and took a few photos. I worked on clay coated paper that I bought a few years ago from New York Central Art Supply.. I am just now learning how to used its unique texture.

Hay Bales In Fog

Commerce is beautiful in deep fog. I was headed home one Monday and saying my goodbyes to family. This fog surrounded the landscape. I took a few shots from my car on the way to see one of my sisters. This represents two of my favorite things in a scene fog and hay bales. This type of scene and weather makes me feel cozy. I have to give a shout out to my two sisters. One has a birthday and the other has finished chemotherapy both are very strong women.

Forest Meditation 2

I really appreciate painting and sketching in the same area in multiple seasons. This is one of my favorite little parks to ride through. We drive through this area to get to the Point Reyes National Seashore. The underlying skeleton for this piece was done sitting in Pam's car because it was raining. The redwoods were drenched in rain. My goal in this series is to get to that sense of rain and fog that gave me peace that day.

Pam Grown Onion

This onion is from Pamela's garden. It was started as a drawing in ink that I later added watercolor to. The drawing was done from life. Given her garden, I always have fresh veggies and fruit to study and paint. I was attracted to the new growth and the outer skin of the onion.

Last Of The Moon

The photograph that inspired this painting was taken one morning after putting out my trash for pick up.

Corner Joint

The gym garage is right above P Terry's burgers. The photo that inspired this painting was taken from the roof. The initial line drawing was in ink. I used Daniel Smith watercolors for the wash. I liked the shadows and cars below me.

Standing Ground

One of my many flower portraits. When I first scanned this in the initial thought was this was an image standing its own ground. Hence the title.

Red Crane

30 by 22 inches This is a glimpse of downtown San Francisco painted from one of my photographs. I think its a little too controlled and tight. I may try a looser version. I was of course attracted to the red piece of construction equipment, trolleys and the people. I used a variety of watercolor brands on Langton Prestige 300 gsm paper. I probably spent about 30 hours on this piece.

Luck Ladies

I have been overwhelmed by living lately so the blog went quite. I have been painting a lot and I have much to share. I just get home from work and do not want to touch this computer. I work with computers a lot at work that may be my issue. I have been taking classes on Craftsy lately. Its fun and it makes me pay attention. I need a voice teaching me something to keep me in my chair. Otherwise I am easily distracted.

Leisure Time

This is a Micron pen sketch that I covered with a watercolor wash. It depicts a scene from Charleston, South Carolina. I was attracted to the guys sitting on the bench and the people in the background. These guys were just hanging out during a workweek or maybe they were taking a break from work. I worked on this new handmade drawing paper from Spain called Garza Papel.

Almost Twins

The Flags and Seasonal Bloom 3

This is a scene from downtown Austin. Its a view of the Capital through the two flags. I don't like whats been happening in that building these days. In my opinion, the halls are filled with hateful men and women who want to stamp out my rights even though I am a taxpaying citizen of this country. But I digress. I enjoy walking around the town sketching various scenes and people.

Corner Hustle and Seasonal Bloom 2

If you frequent the downtown area you will encounter many people trying to hustle money or your signature for a cause. I bet only tourists actually stop and engage with them.I was sitting on the steps of Starbuck's coffee when I snagged this sketch across the street.

Seasonal Bloom

The daffodils were fun this season. I did a series of these right around the Easter season.

The Bridge Beyond

One of the views from my hotel room in Charleston, South Carolina. When I got there I set up and painted a small 5 by 7 from my hotel room. I used that and some photos to complete this larger piece.

Lunch At Point Richmond

This painting was made in January of this year. We were hanging out at Point Richmond and this group of birds were foraging for food. I tried to capture a variety of poses as they flew in and out of the area. I worked with a variety of pastels on Canson paper.

Too Much Party

Another addition to the counter top series. I used an ink pen to get the drawing down. I wanted the painting to be loose so I didn't give myself room to make corrections. I laid in watercolor and filled the interior part of the flower in gouache. As to the title, that was my first impression when I saw the flower on the lower right on screen.

Bottom Feeders

I like painting tulips because they move around a lot. These guys ducked down for a while. I liked the positions of the flowers and that was my focus. The next morning they were completely different. Another in the counter top series.
