This is an older piece that I finally varnished. Its a northern California scene in the Anderson Valley. I worked on copper with really thick strokes in some areas. The attraction was to the shadows and the hay.

Barn in a Vineyard

This is a made up scene from the sketch posted below. As Pam was driving I did sketches of grape vines as we drove thru wine country. I worked on a surface called Sabretooth Cream in a variety of pastels. The sketch is from my Stillman and Birn sketchbook.

Golden Hills

To those who read this blog, I have been painting a lot but I have been neglecting my blog. I painted this little painting at the gallery yesterday during the torrential rains. It was truly beautiful listening to the rain and just creating in a warm environment. I love reading blogs and watching painting demonstrations on You tube. That's were I found this surface called "glass paper". Its made by this guy in the United Kingdom and its called Fisher 400 art paper. Its a nice surface similar to Uart. This is a scene from northern California wine country.

Woods Overwhelm

I took the photo that inspired this painting during my most recent visit to Fort Bragg, California. The mediums used were graphite and conte. I recently purchased a roll of drawing paper and decided to do some large (for me) drawings. This one is 30 by 30 inches. I used extra large graphite made by Derwent.

Bountiful Vineyard

My painting would really benefit from some plein air work in the actual wine country. I've been able to get in a painting or two onsite while traveling but never really spent some concentrated time onsite. I do however take lots of vineyard photos.

Wine Shadows

One of the oils I started this weekend. My previous explorations were in watercolor. I am again working on a copper surface. I bought a lot of copper to paint on about 4 years ago my goal is to use up every panel that I have and that's a lot of paintings.

Full Glass 2

I painted both paintings during the same painting session. I played changed the sky a little and I think the colors are bolder in this version. I used my Lukas watercolor travel palette and arches 300 pound watercolor paper.

California Vineyard

This is one of my oil on copper paintings. I don't know the name of the particular vineyard (my bad) but it did get my attention. I have painted this scene in both pastel and oil. I like how some of the copper peeks through the paint. I hope to have it framed and in my gallery for the West Austin Studio Tour coming this month. Available for purchase right now if you like.

Vineyard Structure 2

I love barns I admit it. They are so key to my childhood and I can't resist them. Of course from a distance as I fear snakes etc.

Hidden in the Trees

This little painting was inspired by a value sketch completed on site. Pam saw a vineyard and hillside hay bales and pulled off the highway to let me get in some sketches and photos. Unfortunately my camera battery was not properly charged so I used my phone and copic markers to document the scene. This was across the street from the hay bales. $25.00 plus shipping.

Drive by 35

I really shouldn't call this one a drive by. Pam had pulled over to stretch her back. I did the sketch in about five minutes and we were back on the road. This barn was in the middle of a vineyard in the Anderson Valley.
