Different Clouds Passing

Whenever I can, I get outside to sketch clouds. I work on small pieces of paper or canvas. I rarely if ever enlarge them. I like the challenge of getting them to be transparent.

Cloud Nine

I am challenging myself in oils again. I have some the arches paper that one can use oils with. This is a little cloud study from a few weeks ago. I walked around outside looking up. My neighbors are used to me painting and sketching outside so they don't call the police when they see me. I am fascinated by clouds.

The Sky Was Fun

I painted this picture because I was enjoying the cloud formations. I put the rooftop in for an anchor. I recently took this class on Craftsy that gave me some new techniques with painting the sky. Craftsy is a great place to take classes online I highly recommend it.

Clouds Through Treetops

In the evening I like to sit outside and watch clouds if we have them. I like how they dominate the tree tops with color and what appears to be volume.

Kiss The Sky

I'm still doing studies for a larger painting. This is a portion of the sky that will appear in the larger painting. Even with photos you can see so many colors in the clouds. I'm working on the smooth side of Canson paper in this one.

Clouds From The Plane

During my many plane rides I have painted cloud formations. I usually use the ACEO trading cards or 5 by 7 Shizen Watercolor Paper. I enlarged this one to an 11 by 14 watercolor painting.

Painting clouds from above makes the flight a little more enjoyable. The cloud formations are amazing from a plane.

During my most recent plane ride I took out my Koi paints and my watercolor trading cards to capture the view from above the clouds and clouds. We had a good pilot because storms were everywhere and he managed to minimize the bumps.

Recent Rains

I worked outside one day in between storms. I loved how the clouds were heavy with rain. My palette was on the bright side.

I'm still exploring this image. I worked larger in this one with a 12 by 16 format. I tried to bump up the values and contrast in this painting.

Yet another group of storms that passed us by. The clouds were great though.

Usually on a Friday after work I will sit outside and paint the sky. Its just me and the clouds. A great way to start the weekend.
