Noyo Night

This little harbor is obviously my latest muse. I'm exploring night scenes too. I love the colors of the night they tend to be more intense. Plus I just bought some new pastels from Terry Ludwig. The most requested violets are just delicious. But I digress. This is watercolor not pastel. I do intend to explore this scene in pastel too.

Floating Neighbors (Watercolor)

I didn't get to visit this area on my most recent visit to the Northern California area. We instead focused on Point Reyes and Fort Bragg, California. This painting is from the El Granada fishing pier. It was January so the light was cool. I tried to keep the background loose to focus in a bit on the floating vessels. I don't use a pencil drawing so I have to work with the watercolor drawing as best as I can. My corneas are a bit different so I tend to see very flat.

Floating vessels always challenge my painting eye. I tend to paint in too many details. I think you can say more with less. I will paint the scene again in another medium. The pier is in El Granda, California the locale of the Princeton Seafood Company. Its one of my favorite places to have lunch.

Working Vessel

Another painting from the many visits to Point Richmond during my holiday in Northern California. I did a 3 by 5 watercolor as my last plein air piece of the day. I worked up the pastel that evening.
