Just A Little Curious
Painting this owl was like creating a black and white photo. The color splashes are my added accents. The photo that inspired this painting was taken by my bosses daughter. She has quite an eye and loves animals. I had this felt pastel paper lying around so I gave it a go again. I really liked how the surface almost grabbed the pastel off the stick.

Pam Grown Onion
This onion is from Pamela's garden. It was started as a drawing in ink that I later added watercolor to. The drawing was done from life. Given her garden, I always have fresh veggies and fruit to study and paint. I was attracted to the new growth and the outer skin of the onion.

Side Porch Peace
I'm back to making paintings of family members. For this piece, I used Golden's Fine Pumice gel medium to cover a drawing on Bristol paper. Next, I put in a watercolor underpainting. The pastel was added last with the idea of letting some of the process show. This is one of my favorite pictures of my Stepfather. He loved sitting on the side porch. I also see some of my Mother in this piece.

Brazos Hipster Crossing
I snagged the photo that inspired this painting with my camera phone. They just had to be painted. Their body language and spacing drew me to the composition. I started with an ink drawing to which I later added watercolor.

Long Gone Coffee Shop
Who remembers the Little City Coffee Shop that used to be on Congress? This is an interior painting. I used to love hanging out there. They had good food and interesting patrons. We once met there before a sketch crawl.

Damp Ground
I am enamored with this silly log. Plus I am trying to get that green the way I saw it on site. I love this part of the park and this is the only area where you can park your car and explore. I don't do a lot of oil painting but I got the bug for the new year so you can expect to see more.

Something Imagined
I am playing around with markers, gel pens and yupo these days. This is a landscape inspired by my many visits to Lake Cleone in Northern California.
