Pasture Family

On my last visit to Commerce I took the time to take some photos of the farmland between Commerce and Neylandville, Texas. The animals were out as were the wildflowers. Unlike a lot of artists, I love using green especially in the landscape. My mom always told me that if you see the cows sitting down, rain is coming. Its funny how I have retained so many of her musings.

Late Summer Field

This is a study from my sketchbook for a larger painting. I was going through some old photos and found a few that I want to revisit or tackle for the first time. I think this was inspired by a photo from the nineties. My photography skills were not that good and they tended to be blurred. In my opinion now, that is a good photo to paint from or use as a starting point.

Abundant Bales

I isolated a part of the picture for this painting. The fence and the bales were my focus. This scene has generated many paintings because of these bales.

Bales In Abundance

Another in my Hay Bale series that will probably be ever expanding. I saw this line of bales along the highway. Beautiful shapes and light are what drew me to this image.

As Summer Settles In

Getting myself prepared for the long hot days of summer here in Texas. Of course I plan a few escapes to California to survive.

Bountiful

I started this painting with my best art critic Pam. I was at a point in which I thought the painting was finished. I took it outside to knock off loose pastel dust. Pam was outside weeding and pointed out an obvious weakness. I went back inside and made some suggested changes. It's great to have a second set of eyes around. This is the larger version of what I have been exploring all week in smaller paintings.

Highway Haunted

Another medium with the same image that I have been playing with for a bit. I think the watercolor gives it a peaceful feel.

Down A Street

I'm not finished with this one yet. I want to play with the shadow shape in the front lower right and pop out the shadows. This scene is down the street as you look left on the street my sister once lived on.
