Water Tower

I usually paint when I visit my home town. For those of you who grew up in Commerce, this is a familiar image. When you first come into town from highway 50 you see a dorm and this water tower. I don't know much of the history behind it. I was drawn to this scene because of the drama in the sky. A storm was coming through and the contrast in the sky was amazing.

Cousin Drawing

Recently my family reached out to our family in the Sulfur Springs, Texas area. We have had reunions, holidays and just plain fun this year. I, being the artist get an entirely new group of people to paint and photograph. Plus it adds to my family series. I have painted Laroyce quite a few times. He is one of my cousins. I wonder if we were friends as kids. I find him to be funny plus he cooks good. He makes a great painting like all of my family.

Tired Waiter Drawing

We love eating at Cafe One in Fort Bragg. The food is good and clean and the atmosphere is diner like. This is the main waiter waiting on dishes to serve. Maybe a watercolor will be first in this sketch exploration.

The Lean Drawing

I am revisiting these images of Northern California in another medium. This series (the first was in pastel)will be watercolor. I loved the greens, sunlight and shadows in the photo. I worked on toned tan paper.

Snowflake Drawing

The study for the painting of my brother's dog that I posted previously. I like the drawing more than the actual painting. Snowflake was trying to get someone to throw one of his chew toys.

Trying 1

Yesterday afternoon I sat and sketched while watching a little bit of the Maloof Trial. He is accused of stealing about 1.8 million in Federal stimulus money. His alleged scam was that he was going to build windmills for green energy. The trial is slated to last three weeks. I sat in the back to get some of the audience in the sketch.

Drawing Floating Neighbors

This drawing is not associated with the current painting by the same name. I must have the title on my brain again. This is a scene from the El Granada Pier. I think the first painting will be in watercolor. Its the medium I am into lately.

Drawing The Cook (In Progress)

This is definitely a two drawing image. The angle of the face and the hat pose a challenge. So more than likely another drawing will follow before I pick up the brushes or the pastels. This is a family cousin that I recently met again as an adult. He has interesting features so of course he had to be drawn.

This one is an addition to my "Doing Hair" series. The patron is my niece and the stylist is my nephew's significant other. I took this photo during our Christmas holidays last year.

A drawing study for a future pastel painting. This is a family cousin with a distinct beard.

I'm currently working with the composition of a future painting. I worked with graphite and pastel pencil on this study.

Small Protection

One of my pen drawings. I distinguish this type of work from sketching. I took a little time with this one and worked from a photo over the course of two days. My sketches are usually done in 2 to 3 minutes or less from life. I was leaving the courthouse and I noticed this guy with an umbrella that was too small. I liked the shadows and movement.
