On The Trail

The beauty of this surface is that you have to let it and watercolor do what they want. You are merely the spectator watching them work after you apply the paint. This is terra skin paper which is a surface made of stone. Last month I spent time with a friend in Zilker park on a Sunday afternoon. I did this sketch while sitting on a bench on the hike and bike trail. I did the initial drawing on site and added color later.

Natural Dryer 2

This is the second attempt with this image. The first version was on canvas board using casein as the medium. For this version I used Terra Skin paper and watercolor. This is my baby sister hanging out clothes in Commerce. Before I finished this series of photos on my phone, she told me not to take her picture. I didn't after that.

Guardians Along The Road

A painting of the sunflower guardians that are planted to protect the tender crops. These were along Highway 34 on my way home. I found a spot with enough shoulder and stopped to take a few photos. It would have been better to do some quick sketches but cars come whipping through a lot and its not safe.

McKinney Falls Bluebonnets

A few years ago we had a pretty good crop of bluebonnets. I was painting at McKinney Falls State Park all day and failed to even notice this scene until I was packing up to leave. It was spring time and the greens were amazing. Since then we have been in a very bad drought. Lets hope it ends soon. I miss the bluebonnets.

Samuel P Taylor Stream

Another painting on the new Terra Skin surface. It is similar to Yupo but a bit different in how it drys. I like the way watercolor flows over it and into really interesting little puddles. I have yet to achieve a painting with really sharp edges on this surface. That may be a good thing.

Corner House 2

I read about this new surface called Terra Skin. Its not made from tress so I decided to give it a whirl. My initial observation was the weight of the surface. Its made of stone so a small piece has a little heft to it. It reminds me of a thicker Yupo surface. I love the way the paint settles on the paper.
