Bales In Snow

It feels as if winter will just not go away. I don't mind much because I like cooler weather. This painting was inspired by photos of a friends ranch when we had our first or second round of snow. Hay bales are one of my favorite subjects. I'm attracted to their imperfect symmetry.

Cold Blast

Another painting in my snow series. This is my hometown during a winter storm. I love walking around with my camera and taking photos during this weather. Of course, I don't get too far from shelter and a heater. The silence is amazing and at times all I hear are my footsteps in the snow. As a child I played in these woods.

Snow on Sunrise

A painting from the snow in my home town a few years ago. It was cold. I didn't paint on site but I did take lots of photos and made many trips into my sisters house to warm up. I was home this past weekend. We had fun and a great feast on Sunday. My mom would have been proud.

Snow Birds and Sunlit Bush

A little snow scene from my hometown. A couple of years ago I was visiting home which is Commerce, Texas. We had an awesome snow storm. I was of course out taking photos. These cardinals were sitting around a patch of melted snow. As I sit here and think, it comes to mind that my hometown is a very scenic place. Or maybe in my old age I am learning to appreciate more what contributed to who I am today. I was home last weekend and the spring colors were bouncing all over the place. This is a little bush I painted while sitting on my sisters porch.

Xmas 2013 Commerce

It snows in my hometown too. In 2013 we had a big snow and ice event in my hometown. It was a combination of snow and ice on Christmas day. I had a flight out to California on the 27th so I had to drive home the day after. Small towns like Commerce don't plow the highways or much else. So I had to "white knuckle" it home. It was a scary ride for sure at least until Dallas. I lost a dear friend today. She was Roberta Harney and I will miss her light. We attended high school together. Small communities don't have mobile dialysis units which is what she needed during a recent snow and ice storm in Commerce. She couldn't go to dialysis because of weather and that led to high levels of potassium and a heart attack. I am sad today because this should have been prevented. Her death deeply saddens me. As I said she had light.
