Another attempt to capture the energy of the area and that hat. This version was the first painting in watercolor and gouache. I worked from the study as well as the photo on printmaking paper. The original study was done in gouache.
The photo that inspired this painting study is from Cannery Row in Monterey, California. I love the photograph too because of the light and of course the hat. I did this little study in gouache in my toned tan sketchbook to play with the color scheme. Monterey reminds me of my law school and Massachusetts years. It is close to the feeling of Marblehead, Massachusetts.
